The Cooperative was born more than one hundred years ago to safeguard the economical and social interests of some Volterran craftsmen. Today, the first aim of the Cooperative is to revaluate the artistic side of the manufacture of alabaster which has been put aside for too long in favour of the production of low quality objects. Our members are among the most skilled craftsmen in Volterra. The alabaster cooperative has recently established a “School-workshop”, an historical exhibition including a collection of original plaster casts and a show room. Situated in Via Pisana, just 400 metres from the historical centre, half way between the Piazza dei Priori and the panoramic view of the “Balze”, this structure also offers a large car park and welcomes groups of school children, coach trips and conference members. Practical courses on the alabaster craft are also available on request. We have two points of sale: the first one in Volterra, Piazza dei Priori, with two spacious halls and five windows; the second one in Pisa, 112 Via Santa Maria, just in front of the leaning tower. What we wish most is to offer to our customers the best of alabaster handicrafts.
