Gello is an ancient hamlet consisting of 9 independent stone houses and a church erected around a small wood of cypress trees, on the top of a hill in the Cecina Valley, with incomparable views of the surrounding countryside and the distant Mediterranean sea. While the exact origins of the hamlet are unknown, maps drawn up by Leonardo da Vinci in the 15th century attest to the presence of the hamlet by that time.
Just 18 km from the coast and 24 km from Volterra, the hamlet of Gello is an ideal base for a Tuscan holiday of utter relaxation on the beach, mixed with cultural experiences in the art-filled hill towns farther inland. And the hamlet itself is a perfect place to come home to at the end of the day to contemplate the beauty and tranquillity of the Tuscan landscape.
Gello is a wonderful example of how hamlets were built and organised over the centuries, and also of rural Tuscan architecture. The houses in Gello have been transformed into comfortable apartments that have been attentively furnished, and equipped with many modern conveniences to ensure that our guests will have a pleasant and relaxing stay.
Each house has its own private terrace and garden area, and spacious rooms and carefully-planned interiors also make the houses in Gello an ideal spot for families with children. The hamlet is located on a hilltop and can only be reached by a single road that dead-ends after the hamlet, ensuring utmost privacy.
The “Casedigello” workshop and the library can hold groups of up to 25 persons.
