Wine Tour Valdicecina 2014

Valdicecina Wine Tour: 5th May 2014

On the occasion of the Conference on Alcoholism and Stress organized in Volterra at the Centro Studi Santa Maria Maddalena, the Tourist Office has decided to organize a tour for conference participants.
This year we propose a tour which sum up all typical elements which contribute to make Volterra and Valdicecina a unique mix of art, nature and culinary experience.

Volterra is a city of art which, like few others, can document with its monuments, three thousand years of history and still retains traces of its majestic past. But the artistic heritage is not limited to the past grandeur: modern installations by the Italian sculptor Mauro Staccioli dot the countryside, creating a wonderful contrast between nature and modernity.

This is the perfect frame for a unique culinary experience.

The Program

In the morning you will be picked up by a bus by your English-speaking driver and the guide which will accompany you during the whole tour. You will transfer through the stunning Tuscan countryside, enjoying the idyllic rolling hills and cypress lined roads.

In addition, you will feel the thrill to walk down tunnels, which lead to the bowels of the earth together with experienced guides.
  • 11:30 a.m.-00:45 p.m. – A visit to Sorbaiano will follow: the estate is situated barely 1Km from Montecatini Val di Cecina, small medieval hilltop village. The property extends over 270 hectares, comprising 160 ha. of cereal crops; 70 ha. of woodland; 15 ha. of olives and 27 ha. of specially vineyard, situated in the Montescudaio DOC production zone.
The estate’s pride and joy is a newly modernized winery designed according to functional criteria to establish the estate at the top end of the Tuscan wine market.
There you will visit the cellar (45’) and than wine tasting will follow (30’): 3 wines, cold cuts, cheese, bread and oil (“fettunta”).
  • 1:30–3:30 p.m. – It is lunch time: let’s take the bus again and arrive at Agriturismo Marcampo where you will be welcomed by sincere hospitality and good traditional food (2 main courses and dessert, 2 wines and “vino cotto”). The “agriturismo Marcampo” produces wines: “Giusto alle Balze”, “Marcampo”, “Genuino”, Grappa and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
